Emirates Singapore Derby 2012

The Emirates Singapore Derby returns for its 17th year running at the Singapore Turf Club on 15 July 2012.

The long-established partnership between Emirates and Singapore Turf Club has made the Singapore Derby into one of the most coveted races in this region.

The Emirates Singapore Derby is a premier event of quality horse-racing on the track and high fashion off the track.

Singapore Turf Club was officially opened by ex-Singapore President, SR Nathan on March 4, 2000 and it is my first time visiting Singapore Turf Club despite the club being in operation for the past 12 years. I am glad to be invited to experience the facilities provided at the Singapore Turf Club. I was feeling kinda thrilled when I received the invitation as I always don’t understand why so many people are attracted to the Singapore Turf Club.

Enjoy a blooper (photo-bomb) first, before we enter to a prestige event...  Hahaha!!

The Emirates Singapore Derby 2012 was held at Marquee, Singapore Racecourse.

On an afternoon of glitz and glamour, all guests were treated to a nice buffet lunch and great wines. Apart from getting an excellent view on the exciting horse racing, there were off-the-track highlights too like free admission to upper and lower grandstand for ladies, exclusive horseshoe charm bracelet for the first 800 ladies and the ‘Guess the Emirates Singapore Derby Years of running’ contest and stand a chance to win the top prize of an Economy Class return air ticket to Melbourne or Brisbane, courtesy of Emirates and a cash prize of $500 from the Singapore Turf Club.

This bottle of Red Dates Bird's Nest drink comes free as part of our goodies bag. It contains 100% real bird's nest, refreshingly good, healthy, wholesome and natural.

Fund-raising remains an important element of the Emirates Singapore Derby. Emirates hopes to raise at least $100.000 to benefit 4 voluntary welfare organizations.

All of us love this activity - 'Smile for Charity!'

There was a photo booth with different hats displayed which were available during the function that allowed guests to take their photos. Singapore Turf Club will donate SGD1 with every photo taken with hats. All proceeds will go to the Singapore Community Chest.

I love this interesting 'Bow Brooch Station'. All guests will receive a hand-made bow brooch compliment from Singapore Turf Club.

I picked my desired diamante pin (butterfly) and 3 types of colors ribbons and gave them to the ribbon-maker, she then gave me a hand-made bow brooch... These were the completed art-work from her with the materials that were chosen.

Terence looked good with the girlish bow too... Hahaha!!

Terence wore the black bow which was freshly made, it matched pretty well with his black outfit.

There was a line up of programmes and activities on that day, and all guests can take part on the 'Guess the Winner Contests'. Simply guess the winning horse for Race 6, 9 and 11 and win fabulous prizes. Apart from guessing the winning horse, we also took this rare opportunity to place our bets on the horse race...

Yes, William helped us to place our bets at the betting booth...

My first time placing my bets on a horse race, and I was feeling kinda of excited. After visiting the club, I can partially understand the reasons that lie behind horse betting and it is pretty fun and addictive, but of course, we have to know our limits. Singaporeans love to gamble, so they simply like to place their bets on ToTo, 4D, Soccer/Football and even on Horse-Racing. Horse Betting is one of the lifestyle games for adults, so please gamble  with responsibility.

We went out of the Marquee to have a better view of the horse racing...

Singapore Turf Club is a unique place and a trendy spot to hold functions. During race days, it will be definitely an eye opener to watch them LIVE, while on non-race days, it is a superb cosy retreat from the hustle and bustle of urban city life. Singapore Turf Club is a four-storey building and is one of the premier race courses in Singapore.

After leaving the Marquee, we were lead to one of the Corporate Rooms which was located on the level 4 (committee level) to experience the excitement of the race in another way.

Level 4 (Committee Level) of Grandstand – Corporate Box: Enjoy an excellent view of the race track through the full glass panel or catch the racing action on the LCD TV screens for a close-up view of the races which are installed in each room (box). Private betting counters are available in close proximity for one’s convenience. The cosy ambience furnishing can accommodate up to 20 guests.

I took some random pictures during the race and after the race...

'Chase Me' was the winner for 17th Emirates Singapore Derby (2000m)...

It was really a time of utmost exhilaration, as we held our breath to watch our betting horse at the race track. The feelings I experienced were agony, excitement and of course relief after the race was over. The happy and satisfied feeling that we all enjoyed is that we had made a right choice and the horse that we had chosen was in the top three placing.

Singapore Turf Club FB fans can now participate in the spot and win Lucky Draw in the STC FB FanPage. This contest will run till 30 July 2012. The winner will stand to win a return economy air ticket to Melbourne or Brisbane, courtesy of Emirates and a pair of tickets to ‘Night at the races’ with exclusive Emirates Singapore Derby souvenir gift pack worth $1,020. There will also be four runner-up prizes which includes a pair of tickets to ‘Night at the races’ with exclusive Emirates Singapore Derby souvenir gift pack worth $120 each up for grabs.
