Gala Premiere of Lucky Boy

Recently, I was invited by Clover Films to the Gala Premiere of 'Lucky Boy' which will be screened in theatres on the 18th May 2017. The Gala Premiere was held at the Capitol Theatre.

20 years ago, Chew Chor Meng played an unforgettable character in the Channel 8's sitcom, 'Don't Worry Be Happy' as Lobang King. Now, he has been paired up with the newest 'Lobang King' of the new generation of actors, (Wang Wei Liang), whereby he acts as Wei Liang's father in the film. I was excited and looking forward to see the acting chemistry between the two upon receiving this invitation. Happily, I was not disappointed by their acting. This movie also marks the first time for Wang Wei Liang in scoring his first lead role!

The story of 'Lucky Boy' is revolves around the life of Lin Yu (starring Wang Wei Liang) and his relationship with his family and friends, especially his love for his childhood sweetheart, Qing Qing, whom he first meets in primary school. Qing Qing (played by Venus Wong) is loved by him throughout his life and the film shows on his many attempts in trying to woo her.

I love the many in depth details that director, Boris Boo has made to show Singapore in the 1970s to 1990s. These range from things from our childhood days, such as Doraemon chocolates, Nokia hand-phones, and the old coin-operated orange public telephones and various others. All these nostalgic items brought back many of fond memories for the audience!

'Lucky Boy' blends an enduring love story with a backdrop of Singapore History, as the movie set primarily in the late 70's to early 90's era of Singapore. This movie will be premiering on the 18th May 2017. Do support this local movie!
